28A – Your Exit Strategy

I do not understand the idea of building a business just to sell it. When you are building a business, you should focus on making the right decisions for the business in terms of prospering. It seems wrong to just start a business to sell it. It is like raising a child for the sole purpose of selling the child to someone else.

My exit strategy is to continue the business as the owner and not consider leaving until 1) I feel like I cannot make the right decisions so I should sell it to someone else 2) Someone offers me a couple pretty pennies for it 3) The business completely fails. It is okay to sell a business, but I don't feel like I'd make the right decisions and investments in a business if I planned to sell it in some years.

  1. Hi Mikalee,
Great work on your exiting strategy blog post! Weird to think that we are already thinking about leaving these made up companies before we even start them. I totally agree with you about planning for something to fail or end in a way before it begins but I think that failing to plan is planning to fail. Sometimes people do create businesses because they have the idea and original drive but want to move on to something bigger and better.

  2. Hey Mikalee,
Well again, love the passion you have for this assignment. People do treat there business like a baby, like their own child and sometimes life has different plans for the both of you. It may not always be their first choice to sell or even their last but it is theirs's none the less. You want to keep yours than more power to you and I wish you luck in the future. Business changes all the time. Four months ago having a business that provides outdoors entertainment would not have been the worst idea, but since now we are under quarantine...not the best.
